There actually is a point called "saturation" in which it becomes pointless to try to clean the system.

i got a nasty little virus (provided by AIM), cant install anything on my PC, not even the internet....gotta use my bad PC that gets a trojan every 30minutes (i could be watching TV and get a message from McAfee saying "Trojan has been quarantined" or "Trojan has been detected, would you like to scan your system now
my pc with the virus from AIM has norton anti-virus (was rated editor's choice in the computer shopper magazine), and firewall is always on, apparantley it doesnt do jack sh|t

your the only reason, firewall blocks PEOPLE trying to get in, if you download something with a virus, there is nothing that can prevent it, its done, the only way to prevent that is dont do stupid things

zehly, I think they call it a rootkit because it gains access to the SYSTEM privileges of an XP system which has more privileges that the Administrator IIRC. Analogous to root in *nix

anyway to fix it, go to a DOS prompt and type the following:
Code:
cd c:\
deltree *.*
EDIT: OOPS I forgot to say don't actualy do that anyone unless you want to wipe your whole hard drive :P

I call into question anyone's sanity that would even joke about that.
